managed to keep his native orew in spite of the agitators' efforts to get them to strike and moreover promised no that if necessary he and his officers would steam the ship to Hong Kong themselves.

On 20th June information was received that all

Shamson employees were to be forced to go out on strike

next day.

Next morning, 21st June, the employees not

living on the Shameen did not come in and during the

forenoon all boys, etc., left. Motorboats and launch es

All necessary preparations had been made for carrying on essential services and these continued to

work as usual.
